Dieter IV Unfähiger was the last Emperor of the Unfähiger line. He is best known for the scandalous affair in which he sold Marienburg its independence for vast amounts of gold. After this came to light, he was quickly replaced by Wilhelm, Prince of Altdorf. After his deposition, he was made Grand Duke of Talabecland.[1a]

HistoryEdit

Dieter IV was the grandson of Count Leopold Unfähiger, the Grand Count of Stirland, the preceding emperor. A vain ruler, he neglected the defence of The Empire, diverting funds from the Imperial military towards his extravagant building plans which were meant to only bolster his own personal ego.[1a] His main focus was the reconstruction of Nuln, the Imperial capital at the time, as a grandiose and beautiful metropolis. Nearly half of the city was demolished to create space for the Palace of Gold, and the creation of the Imperial Zoo within Altdorf.[2a]

When the Goblin Warlord, Grom the Paunch invaded the Empire in 2424 IC, Dieter disgraced the name of the Emperor's and his own family blood-line by shamefully running away from the Greenskin invaders, allowing the capital of Nuln and the Palace of Gold to be ransacked and plundered for all its treasures. For nearly a year, the Empire was on the brink of total starvation as they lost the entire countryside to the Greenskin invaders whilst the decadent and cowardly Dieter languished within Altdorf with his beautiful courtiers. Only the efforts of Prince Wilhelm of Altdorf, cousin to Emperor Dieter himself, allowed the fertile farmlands of the Riekland to survive the onslaught of the invasion and provide what little food remains for the rest of the Empire's people.[2a]

Finally, after years of ill-rule and shameful display of decadence and cowardice, in the Imperial year of 2429 IC, Dieter did the greatest and most shameful act ever conceived by an Emperor of the Empire. The foolish Emperor, in a bid to earn quick money to fill his ravaged treasury, accepted a bribe from the Burgomeisters of Marienburg in exchange for the independence of The Wasteland. The ensuing scandal led to his deposition by the Electors, who appointed in his place Wilhelm III, Prince of Altdorf and Elector Count of the Reikland. The disfranchised Imperial family withdrew to Talabheim. Over time, the Unfähiger family was able to regain a measure of its former power, its head being elected to the office of Grand Duke of Talabheim.[1a]

TriviaEdit

  • Dieter IV first iteration of his family name was von Kreiglitz. Since the introduction of Sigmar's Heir, his family name has since been changed to Unfähiger.[1a]
